Details:
Here is a montage of several out-of-focus photos of the star SIRIUS that I recently took while aurora hunting in the Alaska Range. Known as the Dog Star (because it’s in the constellation Canis Major–the Big Dog), Sirius has also been called the “Rainbow Star” because of its colorful nature. It’s the BRIGHTEST STAR IN OUR SKY so when it twinkles, it twinkles big time, and the colors are out of this world!
ABOUT THIS PHOTO MONTAGE ~ I was getting blown away by my how much Sirius was twinkling the other night so I pointed my 600mm telephoto lens at it, made my lens slightly out-of-focus which enlarged the star and made it look like a small bubble in my viewfinder. Then, as an experiment, I set my camera on time-lapse to take one photo per second. 100 seconds later I stopped to flip through the 100 images and again, was blown away… the colors were wildly different in each & every shot. It was Sirius-ly scintillating!
