Details:
This was the view in St. George, Utah, yesterday about an hour before sunset. Note the sun is visible but there are no shadows. It was shining through a dense haze of smoke from unknown sources. Local news cited not just fires still burning in California but extinguished ones much nearer us, which devoured thousands of acres of dry brush and thirsty trees, leaving behind dust and ash to be whipped up by the high winds we've had the last couple days. About 15 minutes later the sun faded from view for the rest of the day.

#1: View (west) from the backyard about an hour before sunset.
#2: View (north) of Pine Valley Mountain on a bright sunny day and today.
#3: Artistic impression of a sunny day on Mars. One day there will be human colonies on Mars. Roads will connect communities together, house construction will be proceeding apace there as well as here, and they'll be attempting to grow plants to oxygenate the atmosphere. The sun is half the size seen from Earth, and the fine red Martian dust hangs suspended in the air for days at a time.

Photo data:
#1: 5-shot bracket. Only 2 were used: +0 for landscape, -2 for the correct color of the sun.
#2: Sunny day, hazy day shots blended into an animated GIF. Because they weren't taken at the same location they were scaled so their midgrounds match.
#3. Color-matched to Martian-rover photos and sun added at half-size.
