Details:
Mare Orientale This image is rotated 90ᵒ clockwise from north up orientation to better visualize features of the Orientale impact basin. The basalt-filled center of the basin lies just below the label "Mare Orientale." Just inward from there, rounded massifs lie near the left margin of Lacus Veris, which is a basaltic flow into lowlands between the inner and outer Montes Rook rings. Lacus Autumni is more basaltic flow in lowlands between the Montes Rook and Montes Cordillera. Both of these ranges can be traced to the limb of the moon where the mountainous margins of the basin rings and the lower, smother terrain in between are distinctly visible. Craters Eichstadt and Schlüter serve as good reference points to find the Cordillera basin ring. The other labeled craters serve as further reference.
