Details:
The last ten days have been a flurry of comet adventures. This is a naked eye sketch from last night north of Flagstaff, Arizona, USA. The comet has become more and more beautiful as it lofts further into the dark evening sky. Last night, I was able to trace that out to about 17 degrees in length. The ion tail has been obvious through binoculars for a few days and last night I was also able to discern it naked eye by noting the dark notch between both tails. It doesn't appear as a thin beam visually, just as the left side of a darker wedge. Sketch was made with graphite and inverted after scanning. Star field was traced via a laser print from Starry Night Pro so I could concentrate on sketching the comet. Foreground silhouette applied via photo reference (for same reason).
