Details:
Like most outings clouds haven't been kind. They blocked it once dark for most of the night. I'd just driven 6 hours to the Badlands this time though. I just about didn't even bother taking this shot given how low it now was.
It's hard to top dark skies obviously. I hear comments about it dimming now, but well it has a long way to dim before it isn't worth it.
It was simply striking last night, even with the cloud always messing up some part of it. It was as bright or I think brighter than the Milky Way, the tail as a whole that is. And you can see most of it that way. And in a dark sight, that level of bright is just amazing to look at.
This was just 3 frames tracked and stacked at 1600 ISO, F2, 1 minute exposures on a cheap Canon T5 crop body. Sigma 85mm F1.4 Art. 3 framings shot horizontally then panned up for each to get this view.
That Ion tail is getting cut off still but that's 20 degrees just in this photo. All while the comet is on the horizon.
