Comet and Aurora at Polar Capital – Churchill, Manitoba, Canada.
It has been cloudy for a week already, but luckily it was a perfect clear sky tonight in Churchill.
Inside the Arctic region, Churchill is infamous as the “Polar Bear Capital of the World”. As Churchill is located at the south of the Hudson Bay, it is the route for Polar Bears getting to the frozen bay to hunt seals in the winter. Churchill is also a perfect place to see the aurorae and the night sky with stars.
I picked a landmark to compose my dream picture – a huge stone made figure ”Inuksuk” from the Inuit culture erected at the shore of the Hudson bay.
I had to wait till 1:30am, as we are way too north and only have a few hours of “not so bright midnight sky”.
Finally the Comet appeared above the Inuksuk, and lucky enough I had the faint green aurora and the beautiful colors of the twilight sky at the same time.
One more surprise! Besides millions of beautiful stars above in the sky, I had to deal with thousands of mosquitos on the ground. I got one in front of the camera as well :P
