I am blown away by some of the incredible images in the galley, whilst I cannot match the quality, it's not a competition, but they do inspire me to try to improve my own images. I noticed a lot of people use the stacking technique, so decided to give it a go myself. I downloaded the free Deep sky stacker software and found a nice tutorial for beginners how to use it. Whilst I had heard of certain terms like lights, darks, flats etc, I had no idea what they meant. So this is my first serious attempt, I did have a go last week but was lazy and skipped some of the steps. I did notice afterwards that I had made some mistakes, not with that stacking itself (at least I think not!) but my camera settings were wrong, so an important lesson learnt. I hope I get another opportunity to try again this time with the correct settings. I am not sure how much difference it would have made as it was just I did not use the widest aperture (had it set on F/3.5 should have been F/2.8 and also i had it set on AI servo for moving subjects I think I should have had it on one shot for still subjects(although the comet is hardly still!) Despite those mistakes, I do believe the stacked image is an improvement compared to a single exposure, so I must have done something right. I have included one of the single exposures I rejected due to a satellite streak, just to show the difference. Canon 70D with Sigma 105 macro ISO 1250 F/3.5 38 x 4sec exposures
