Details:
I got my first view of Comet NEOWISE this morning, and I was not disappointed. It was easily visible to the unaided eye, even under bright third quarter moonlight. It reminds me a lot of Comet Bradfield in 2004. This is a 15 second guided exposure with a Nikon D700 and a 100mm Nikkor lens at F4 and ISO 1600. The image was taken at 5:05 am EDT on 12 July 2020 from the Popcorn Overlook in the mountains near Clayton, Georgia. I watched the tail rise for 32 minutes before the comet’s bright head popped above the horizon. It was breathtaking in binoculars! I could trace the dust tail for a full 10º.
