Details:
The first two photos show Venus, only 0.3% illuminated, captured through a thin blanket of clouds (third photo) a few seconds before hiding behind a hill 4km away. They were taken 4 minutes before sunset when the planet was 3.4° above the horizon and only 4.7° from the Sun, thus deeply inside its glare and well in the field of view of Soho`s Lasco C3 camera (last photo). A Nikon CoolPix P900 camera was used for the shots at 17:11 (UTC-3h). The poor image of the planet resulted from the very bright background added to the attenuation caused by the intervening clouds and unstable atmospheric conditions just above the horizon.
