Details:
On Friday evening a cloudless sky promised to provide a perfect view of the Young Crescent Moon (18 hours old) setting to the north of Christmas Pass. However sunset at 5.15 pm was followed by the development of a large sunset stratospheric aerosol twilight arch which was so bright that it prevented the thin Moon from becoming clearly visible for almost three quarters of an hour. This left only twenty minutes to watch it setting as shown in the accompanying photographs. Just before it did, I captured Venus and Aldebaran high in a lilac colored twilight sky with the Pleiades and Young Moon about to set in the last light of sunset below. Camera: Tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 in sunset, manual, and night scenery modes with up to x60 zoom magnification.
