Details:
Yesterday I wrote that equinox auroras are the real deal. Little did I know of what was going to happen the next night. The aurora started again during the blue hour, and it was already quite vivid with even some pink, as soon as the sky turned dark enough (but still during the blue hour). Then the sky exploded in fast moving auroras, and this lasted for more than 4 hours, with barely any interruption. Usually we get a few short aurora outbursts, with longer quiet periods in between, but tonight it was one long period of fast moving auroras. At some point though, the aurora went so far to the south that I could only distinguish its glow above the horizon! Luckily, it did not last long before it was again overhead. This spring equinox night was, for me, the best aurora night of the entire season. We still have a few days left of darkness here in Utsjoki, but I don't think anything can beat tonight!
