Details:
After wrapping up a very cold morning photographing the Yukon Quest, I was headed home & came across this lovely sun dog!
One of my favorite winter atmospheric occurrences, sundogs flank the sun with a 22° halo. This is caused by the refraction of sunlight by ice crystals in the atmosphere. At -22°, moving traffic blows snow gusts wildly in front of this bank of spruce trees, creating a stronger appearance of the sun dog halo. This sun dog is so "thick", it appears to be double!
