Details:
Betelgeuse is bright in near IR. It still looks bright compared to other stars such as Bellatrix and the Belt of Orion stars. This is a 3.5 min of exposure constructed from a stack of 6 sec exposures @ iso 2500. The camera is a Lifepixel modified Nikon D7100 for 830 nm cutoff (IR only no visible light) that likely extends the range close to 1000 nm. The camera was mounted on a tracking mount. My current impression is Betelguese might be proportionately dimmer in NIR than it was two weeks ago using the same photographic technique.
