Details:
The temperature was -20c in Saariselka, north Finland when these light pillars appeared above the ski slopes. You could see the ice crystals in the air sparkle like static noise. It started off faint over just a few lights whilst we were getting in our last ski runs of the day before aurora hunting. As we were walking back to the cabin I looked back towards the ski slopes to see of they had developed or vanished and was greeted by this amazing display. Nikon D800 10 seconds, f2.8 iso 800.
