Details:
This composite of the 2012 annular eclipse in Northern California was made by combining white light and red Hydrogen alpha images. Sizing the images so the moon is exactly the same size and then over laying them results in a picture showing that indeed the red chromosphere lies above the white light photosphere. Amateurs with similar images taken during the latest eclipse can do the same to see this effect.
