Details:
It was a magical night at Madeline Lake on the Ingraham Trail near Yellowknife in Canada's Northwest Territories, on Sept. 7. The Kp was low and the auroral oval quiet, but the aurora still appeared on cue in the darkening twilight and danced all night over the still waters. While it never got very bright and active, the aurora was still great to look at and photograph, exhibiting subtle colours. This is prime time for this area for chasing the Lights as it is dark, warm, often clear, and the lakes not yet frozen, making for fine reflections and compositions. These are all single exposures of 8 to 15 seconds at ISO 800 to 1600 with 15mm and 20mm lenses.
