Details:
On the evenings of July 30th and 31st, I saw twilight coloration and crepuscular layers reminiscent of the Kasatochi event nearly eleven years ago. I had no idea what the source was, but found out this morning, thanks to Donald Davis's posted images. Tonight was the first chance I had to image the twilight coloration, and here are the results. These four images, all with a 16mm fisheye-NIKKOR on a Canon Rebel XTi, were taken between 8:41 and 8:47 pm, CDT. See NASA Earth Observatory for spectacular images of the June 22nd eruption of the Raikoke Volcano in Russia.
