Wow! I just had the best aurora adventure ever! I was lucky to be a guest on board tonight's flight of NASA's SOFIA observatory which is presently flying out of Christchurch during it's annual trip to view the southern sky during austral winter. . Tonight's flight went a long way south of New Zealand, and for almost the whole mission the sky to the south was bathed by an amazing auroral display! Some of the auroral forms were truly astonishing, and at times the aurora was so bright it mesmerised all on board!
