Details:
Received wisdom is that one looks after the sun has set. On the Solstice display it was possible to see them while the sun was still just at the horizon. Above the houses you can see the edges of the wave patterns in the clouds picking up by the sunlight against a pale blue sky. After seeing the red tinges in other posts, I looked back at images from the night and the reddish colour was visible over North Yorkshire too.
