Without going out for at least two months and a half for chasing the northern lights and seeing the forecast favorable, on the positive side, expecting the arrival of the solar wind, on June 17th 2019, I decided to go out and give it a try, maybe will get lucky with a nice decent show having in mind that were calling for a KP=4. By the time the day passed and evening came was more than clear that not much was happening with the solar data and obviously no aurora chasing for tonight. To my surprise I was blessed to witness an amazing show of the Noctilucent Clouds which they appear on the western horizon as soon as the sun was settling down. As further we were getting deeper into the darkness, the luminous white bluish S-shaped tendrils were getting more and more visible and taking over the sky. Just happened to be close to some power pools and I was really mesmerized by the interaction of the artificial power created by humans (power poles) and this pure, beautiful, cosmic phenomena called Noctilucent Clouds…This is like you go to the market to buy some apples (predicted aurora) but instead you end up with some carrots (NLC’s)….I was a really happy camper with my carrots in the end…..Couldn’t ask for more that night….looking forward for the NLC’s season for more great displays….…(Nikon D810, Nikkor 24-70mm 2.8, ISO 1000; 0.5 & 1.6 seconds exposure; 70mm, NW of Mundare, Alberta, Canada, June 17, 2019).
