Details:
This image shows the Moon-Saturn close conjunction.
It was taken at 00:16 (UTC-3h), when Saturn was 3490.2 times more distant from the Earth than the Moon. The centers of Saturn and the Moon were then only 25.8 arcminutes apart.
A Nikon CoolPix P900 camera was used to take the shot. No telescope was attached to the camera. PhotoScape freeware was employed to process the photo in order to prevent saturation. By applying the backlight correction, I could brighten the dimmer Saturn relatively to the brighter surface of the moon. As a result, Saturn became visible, and the image of the Moon was darkened, preventing its saturation.
Although the light distribution of the image was changed, the technique brought out a lot of interesting details that would have remained lost in the Moon`s glare otherwise.
