Today, Spaceweather.com posted a disturbing image of Canes Venatici galaxy NGC 5353 group with supernova SN 2019ein taken at Lowell Observatory obliterated by satellite noise. I imaged the same object with my 14.5-inch Ritchey-Chretien telescope to study the supernova one week before the Starlink launch and attached a composite image. The magnitude of this satellite light intrusion presented by potentially 12,000 of these satellites cannot be underestimated. To me as a dedicated observer of the night sky for over 50 years and an avid underwater photographer, this satellite megaconstellation is the equivalent of polluting our oceans with plastics. I hope we take every measure possible to mitigate the effects of satellite light pollution of our night skies not only to protect the integrity of science of astronomy but also to preserve the aesthetics.

Looks like we will need to open up a Dark Sky Park on the Moon.
Looking at the spread of light pollution here on Earth I think we can see the direction this space interference is going. And its just terrible.

Stooping this charade is a must, they plan to put up 12,000 starlink Sats in the name of Global Broadband --Ha! Internet Access is already nearly a global gimme except in the most remote of zones.
So they would rather ruin our view into space?.....Sounds rather nefarious to me!
What are they trying to hide???

Stooping..Stopping

Sorry

It is a real disaster! It almost seems that light pollution and these satellites are the consequence of each other or if the lights pollute it is because they serve society and the gain and the sky does not matter to anyone so the internet satellites are the continuation of this mentality that is finally the sky serves to make money. Telescopes cost because they observe and take pictures when they are on the web? So young people dont care about the sky and this passion will unfortunately end. Of course, no one does anything between those in power.

Cant wait for the flying in space orbit lighted billboards advertising popular products and services like soda, cars, insurance, and phones etc. Gimme Money.

Many years ago someone proposed to send a gigantic billboard Coca Cola to space and the community of asronomes opposed preventing this stupidity. I hope the desire on the billboards is a joke because otherwise it means that the world has, as it has, serious problems!

Back in the 1960s it was kind of entertainment to observe and photograph the old Echo balloon satellite. Now its so bad just observing a faint galaxy at the telescope magnitude limit is ruined when one of these already there Earth satellites pass thru the field. Its like a camera flash going off. Too much trash up there already.
