Details:
Hydrogen alpha is not cheap, with good scopes from Coronado and Lunt beginning at $400. But with $5 Baader solar filters, even a $6 surplus lens can reveal a lot of detail with new AR 2740 (2738 on the second rotation!). First shot is full disk Ha with Lunt 60, iPhone 5c, 12mm Plossl, no soom. Second is same, but zoomed to 4X for prom/spot detail. Third is the $6 achromatic refractor with Draco Baader 3" filter; note how it can be used as the solar finder as well. Last shot with the 50mm, 360 fl Surplus Shed lens, 12mm Plossl, orange filter, a close up of graduation and other activity in visible light around the spot.
