Details:
This elongation of Mercury has been a quite unfavorable one for observers in the Southern Hemisphere. Thus, in spite of being 19.2 degrees away from the Sun this evening, Mercury (m=-0.7) was only 11 degrees above the horizon at sunset. Luckily though, I managed to capture it, using a Nikon P900 CoolPix camera at auto mode, just before setting over Saquarema, a small coastal city 7 km away (and 50 miles East of Rio de Janeiro), between 18:57 and 19:02 (UTC-3h), as the elevation of the planet dropped from 3.2 to 1.9 degrees only. Illuminated in green, the Maria de Nazaré Church is seen standing prominently in the background.
