Definitely by all Canadian Prairies standards this morning, for Valentine’s Day was a frigid cold one hunting the Aurora Borealis, temperature plunged close to 40 below zero after midnight. The show wasn’t great and started after midnight with a very faint green band from east to west which eventually later evolved in thickness and brightness. I was expecting the green band to explode at one point into curling curtains and pillars but to my surprise the band went directly into the pulsating mode and remained so at least after 04:00 am. Close to the end of the show both of my cameras were frozen solid after battling the cold for 4 hours but at least I didn’t lost anything special…(Nikon D800, Nikkor 14-24mm 2.8, ISO 6400; 3 seconds exposure; 14mm, & Nikon D810, Sigma 14mm 1.8, ISO 2000 & 6400; 2 & 3 seconds exposure; 14mm, Figure Lake, Alberta, Canada, February 14, 2019).
