Details:
Did a quick 3-day aurorahunt in Iceland on my own. Saw aurora every night as I find clear nightskies. This was the bouquet final of day 3.
Drove to southwestern tip of Reykjanes peninsula in Iceland, found a few clouds so drove east of Grindavik to find completely clear skies... it was cold and very windy... but what a show... huge auroral band to the north danced extremely bright with massive pink along the green bands, then climbed up to the zenith. I was doing a facebook live stream and shooting video on my tripod so I put my Canon EOS 6D with Samyang 12mm f/2.8 fisheye lens on car roof to shoot straight up, in continuous shooting thanks to a magiclantern feature. Camera was on 4 sec. shutter speeds with ISO 4000 but there's still motion blurr in aurora because it was dancing fast and furious. First imgage here at 9:32 PM, second image at 9:33PM. Shot in RAW and edited with Canon's DPP, resized and sharpened in Irfanview.
A few words of advice :
- Dress very warm, especially when it is windy. Do not underestimate the windchill
- no tripod ? no problem. Put camera on ground or on car roof or anywhere stable.
- Dine before sunset. You don't want to miss this even over a great meal. You'll have plenty of dining time after you return home.

on that night we watched aurora all night but much of it was weak after this initial outburst... still, slept in car, no hotel expense, eyes feasting on the heavens above. Plenty of time to sleep back home.
