Details:
The 2019 aurora tourist season for Churchill, Manitoba kicked off with a fine all-sky show on January 31. The storm that gave great displays to northern Europe had subsided by the time darkness fell and midnight approached. But we still got a good show over the sky, with some hints of pink at times to the camera. The Kp started out the night at 5 but had dropped to 3 later in the evening for us, but under the oval that still provides a good aurora. But early in the evening when the show was very active over Europe we saw only a faint arc to the north and south. The arcs didn't brighten until about 9 pm CST and were at their best a couple of hours later. Our first group of aurora tourists were very pleased with the sky show. Curtains covered the sky overhead and to the south at times. But only about at 11:00 pm CST or so did activity kick up enough to provide some rapid motion and rippling effects, with some nitrogen pinks along the bottom edge of the curtains, and on curtains off to the north.

That main picture is stunning. We only had a faint glow here on the north coast of Scotland! Seeing your pictures makes me want to re-locate to northern Canada! Best wishes, Paul Clements, Kirtomy, Scotland.
