Details:
This Gif is a combination of 2 different Gifs of Comet 60P/Tsuchinshan. The images in both Gifs are all 300 seconds long and the Field of View of each image is 0.22 by 0.17 degrees. The first Gif is from September 12 when 60P was magnitude 17.8 and the second Gif is from December 30 when 60P was magnitude 13.6, 40 times brighter and with a much nicer tail. Comet Tsuchinshan was 189 million miles from Earth on September 12, 96 million miles from Earth on December 30 and will be 77 million miles from Earth on February 23 when it makes its close approach to Earth. 60P reached Perihelion in its 6.58 year orbit this past December 11 when it was 151 million miles from the Sun. 60P right now is about as bright as it is predicted to get, but it is a comet!
