Comet C/2018 Y1 (Iwamoto) was about magnitude 13 and 151 million miles from Earth in these images. The comet was only moving at 0.12 degrees per day across Earths sky so in the 50 minute Gif the comet only moved 0.004 degrees, the field of view of the images is about 0.21 x 0.17 degrees. Updated ephemeris now shows the comet will pass about 28 million miles from Earth on February 12 when it may reach magnitude 8, the comet will be moving at 0.3 degrees per hour across Earths sky at close approach to Earth. The comet will reach perihelion in its orbit on February 6 when it will be 119 million miles from the Sun. As usual, to get the best resolution of these images select the larger image.
