Happy New Year to the spaceweather.com team and all the readers! After a very snowy New Year's Eve here in Inari, Finnish Lapland, we were lucky to have very clear skies in the night 1-2 January. And guess what: we already saw our first auroras for this year! The northern lights let us wait, for quite a while actually, as they made their appearance only around half past midnight local time. And guess what: this coincided exactly when the Bz turned negative! The auroras remained quite pale, but displayed some nice movement and shapes for a little while. I also saw many Quadrantids, a sign that the peak of the shower is approaching... unfortunately none were captured on camera. What a great way to start the year up here in Finnish Lapland! (PS: 2019 is not yet available in the drop-down menu for the date)
