On Dec 25 I posted already some first images of Polar Stratospheric Clouds over the eastern part of The Netherlands. The movie of these clouds is presented December 29 in the front-page of this website. Some additional images are posted now here. Small parts of the PSC were very colourful, but sometimes for only a short while. Airliners normally fly at heights of 35.000 to 40.000 ft. If 'normal' Cirrus clouds are present, these airliners sometimes disappear behind the cirrus clouds. Cirrus could form in a wide range of 6 to 12 kilometres, in case of very high thunderstorms the cirrus anvils can reach heights of 15 kilometres (in the tropics even higher). On this Christmas morning many airliners crossed the skies over The Netherlands. It was remarkable that all these planes stayed continuously in sight. The cirrus like PSC clouds drifted at much higher levels, not obscuring the sight towards the planes at any moment.
