Dear Webmaster, I hope it is not inappropriate to post a big thankyou to Earth to Sky and Spaceweather.com on Christmas Day for fulfilling a wish to fly our town’s Peace message towards the edge of space in 2018. At 36kms (118,000 feet) it was undoubtedly the highest peace message in the world that day and among the highest in history. Harleston, Norfolk, UK resolved to make 1000 origami Peace cranes, each carrying a message or drawing from all of the young people in our schools and members of the community. The wingtips bearing images of a swift, which migrate from our houses across town and cities, continents and countries, were clipped and placed in a clear sphere surrounded by a United Nations wreath. The sphere was taken symbolically to ‘Ground Zero’ in New York, flown towards the edge of space over California and carried to the Memorial Peace Park in Hiroshima in Japan. From a simple resolution, with the help of the students of Earth to sky it has been a memorable and thought-provoking experience. Our message is particularly relevant for Christmas Day: ‘1000 origami wing-tips carry our boundless message of hope for peace to everyone, everywhere from the people of Harleston and District, Norfolk, UK. Season’s Greetings and Thank you You can see the full illustrated story with video excerpt from the flight at: http://www.visitharleston.org.uk/cranesforpeace Image: Earth to Sky
