Details:
as the Orionids are coming back ( peak 21-22 oct ) and already active I'd like to share this image I shot back on oct. 21st in 2011, just as the Orionid's radiant started to peak behind horizon ( higher due to mountains ) this earthgrazer flew across the entire sky in 3-4 seconds at 11PM .
shot with a Canon EOS 550D (rebel T2i) crop dslr and 15-85mm lens at 15mm = 24mm FF equiv wide angle, still this covered less than half of its track, it was stunning.
ISO 1600, f/4, 30 sec. shutter.
The higher the radiant is the more Orionids you will see, thus best in 2nd half of night and pre-dawn, BUT if you want to see earthgrazers go after them around 11PM when the radiant just peaks at 0° elevation in the ENE.
on the photo it may look like ISS or a satellite or airplane but no, this was a spectacular earthgrazing shooting star. It flew from bottom to upper left. The bright star in lower right is Capella.
Note the nice green colour of the meteor.
