Details:
Mercury was at Greatest Western (morning) Elongation on Aug 26th but only near +0.8 mag. The following day it was at its ascending node. By Sept 1st it reached -0.8 mag. and will brighten to -1.4 (as bright as Sirius) on the 11th. I photographed it too late in the bright dawn with the crescent moon on Sept 8th but still visible smack center in image. On Sunday morning Sept 9th, rising above the tree line at 5:45 am, ~40 minutes before sunrise, it was easily visible to my eyes with prescription glasses. Mercury is in Superior Conjunction on the 21st (at mag. -1.8).
