Details:
First,Though i have not collimated my scope in long long time,((( i like to do it on one of Jupiter's Moons by eye, makes it fun,go out of focus and count rings, your trying to have all equal amount all the way around, like a perfect dount))) it's a must before any astro-imaging, if so applical . Secondly...Time on Target, With Mars, i've found your only allowed roughly 90-100 seconds of capture before it's rotation changes, any thing over that time period will bur your edges in processing. Jupiter's even worse, only 50-70 allowed, Saturn is about 100. Venus you can 120. This is the reason you'd like as many frames per second capturing as possible. You are limit in the actual object, before the view changes due to it Rotation,Totally different story with Astrophotography, Galaxy, star cluster Nebula, etc,etc.. I use a 15mm lens, with uv-ir filter in projection kit with Canon T3I with the ir removed (Mod), on 8SE tube on CGEM mount.
