Details:
At the break of slope between two hills there is a strange old weather-beaten Musasa tree which stands like a sentinel overlooking Murambi suburb. For over two weeks around the June Solstice the Sun, as viewed from Murambi East, sets on the horizon in the vicinity of this tree - which is why I call it the Solstice Tree. Here are some pictures and animations from June 2017 and 2018 showing the Sun setting on this tree. In the first animation from this year the Sun appears to roll down a hill slope before settling at the tree. A sunspot is visible in the earlier frames. The second slower and more static animation from last year also has a sunspot visible which is unusual as the Sun has for the past few months been approaching a solar minimum and is normally free of them. Camera Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 in sunset scene mode with up to x60 zoom magnification and solar filter.
