Details:
Although the Sun's surface is currently devoid of sunspots as it is in its solar minimum phase, there was a nice flame-like prominence on the northeast quadrant of the Sun on June 7th. A smaller looping prominence was also evident in the southeast quadrant.
The image was captured with an Imaging Source DMK 31AU03.AS monochrome CCD camera attached to an 80mm f/6 ED refractor equipped with a 50mm Solarscope Halpha filter. Images of the sun surface and prominences were captured separately, combined as layers in Photoshop CS and colorized to give the final image shown here.
An inverted B&W image is also provided that better shows the wispy elements of the flame-like prominence.
