Here is Mars in May rising in the Moonlight !
Mars is already appearing quite bright as it rises now in the southeast in the wee hours of the night. It will continue to brighten and rise earlier as it approaches its once-a-generation very close approach at the end of July.
Here it shines in a blue sky lit by the bright waxing gibbous Moon off frame to the right on the night of May 27/28.
Mars is in Capricornus, while to the right is bright Saturn in Sagittarius with the Milky Way star clouds just barely showing up in the moonlit sky.
This is a stack of 4 x 15 second exposures at f/5.6 for the foreground to smooth noise and increase depth of field and one 10-second exposure at f/4.5 for the sky to minimize trailing. All with the Sony a7III at ISO 1600 and Canon 24mm lens. The trees and grass are blurred from the wind.
