Taken a minute after www.flickr.com/photos/79387036@N07/42008577091/in/datepos..., I decided to include this image to show how it looked from my iPhone without much post-processing. I think iPhones tend to saturate colors a bit too much. The bluish tint was not apparent to my eyes but was to the camera. I like gray clouds but perhaps they were actually more blue due to the on-set of twilight.
This amazing cloud formation occurred with very weak radar returns (light rain failing to reach the ground) and no thunderstorms within 35 miles. Those storms were weak and short lived as well. The nature of these mammatus clouds will probably remain a mystery. Unfortunately clouds blocked the setting sun at the moment of this capture or an even most spectacular display would have resulted. Temperature was in the low 60's with RH at 50% and no winds.
