Details:
On the evening of 29 April, the Mutare sky remained clear for just long enough for a two minute sequence of 52 still images to be taken of the completely Full Moon rising above Cecil Kop Nature Reserve. These were used to produce a looped x 15 speed time-lapse animation which shows the Moon rising from the crest of a hill where trees were being blown by the wind and encroached by wisps of pale pink sunset tinted cloud. See how much movement there is in addition to that of the Moon. The animation which lasts for just 8 seconds took several hours to produce as each of the 52 exposures had to be matched and registered to compensate for hand-held camera movement that took place while standing on a ladder to look over a wall to view the Moon. Camera: Hand-held Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 in sunset scene mode and x48 zoom magnification.

Peter,

Your time and effort to produce this beautiful Moonrise was well worth it. The orange Full Moon rising, the wind blowing the trees and the Moonlit clouds to the right rising above the trees, dissipating and then rising again make this one of the nicest images that I have seen. Amazing how clear everything is.

Thank you for telling us about how you collected the images and produced this animation, very interesting. May I ask what software you used to produce the animation?

Thanks again for sharing this with us,

Mike,

Thanks so much for the compliments. This does indeed make all the hard work worthwhile. Adobe Photoshop Elements 15 was used for matching, registering and exposure compensation. The processed images were uploaded and animated online at http://gifmaker.org/ The service is free, easy to use with no registration required and the downloaded results are of excellent quality and have no watermarks.
