Details:
I have tried to capture the elusive companion to Sirius A for more than 6 years now. Every one who has tried knows how difficult it is and from Stockholm's latitude of 59.3° N it culminates at only 13.5° above the horizon so it seemed almost impossible. I got a superb instrument on loan last week, a hand polished Maksutov OMC-200 from Orion Optics UK. 3 nights ago I adapted an ADC (atmospheric Dispersion Corrector) and I successfully split the 2 stars at an altitude of only 8° above the horizon, on my first attempt. I then spent a lot of time performing measurements to be sure about my image scale and orientation (image 2). On image 3, I have put a red dot on the measured position in the illustration and was very pleased to confirm that it was almost spot on. /*Peter R
