Details:
As easy as this Winter Night Sky Gem 1300 light years distant is to observe, it offers a challenge to properly image. The central region is greatly energized by some hot young suns called the Trapezium, however the outer regions of this hydrogen cloud glow with a much softer hue. I attempted to use a Stellarvue 102ED refractor and a Canon XS modified DSLR to record as much of this glorious object as possible without overexposing the central core. I recorded and merged three separate calibrated images, 25 x 5 minute ISO800 outer regions, 25 x 35second inner region, and 20 x 15 second ISO100 Trapezium using ImagesPlus and PS5.
