The Year of the Dog - Happy Spring Festival!
Last night was number two of a four night photography tour for me working as a guide with Lights Over Lapland in Abikso, Sweden. We had been spoiled on the first night with strong dancing auroras and many of my guests were unconvinced it could be beaten. They were happily proven wrong.
Strong auroras filled the sky throughout the evening and then at midnight the lights danced again. As midnight struck fireworks lit the sky up from the village of Abisko marking the beginning of the Chinese New Year. At 00:10 we were graced with the presence of a celestial canine high above Mount Njullá. Who needs fireworks when nature can beat any man-made display?
There is also the Finnish legend behind the aurora - revontulet, which means fox fires. It was believed that magical foxes danced across the tundra and sparked fires in the skies with their tails. I'll let you decide. :)
