Details:
Our moon was just approaching white pine trees two miles west of the observing site. Color and shape distortion could be seen. Our atmosphere, acting as a lens, created a red and green rim on the moon. The earth's shadow took a bite out of the moon (no wonder the moon is blue; you would be, too, if the earth took a bite out of you).
