Details:
Snow curtains were coming and going and when they were opened we saw nice auroras. For a while also a weird atmospheric phenomenon appeared (picture 2). Probably caused by a light source, reflected by the thin cloud cover as it was visible overhead like an arc, but with a kind of crossing points with side lines.

it looks most likely as a reflection in horizontally floating ice crystals indeed. Try to compare the light pattern in the sky with a street map of the location where you did photograph the phenomenon. I guess that the image shows a reflected streetmap ahead, with the strongest street lights near crossings. Effects like this have been recorded before.
