Details:
The Moon Passes Regulus (January 4, 2018) The waning gibbous Moon passed just above the star Regulus in Leo on the night of January 4/5, 2018 for most of North America. This was the view from southern Alberta. The star was occulted by the Moon this night but only from northeastern Quebec, and Labrador and Newfoundland. Technical info: This is a blend of 7 exposures, from 1/200 to 0.3 seconds with the Canon 6D MkII at ISO 100, and through the TMB 92mm apo refractor at f/4.5. I blended the images with luminosity masks using ADP Pro v3 Photoshop extension. This allowed the star to be exposed enough to show up well, while preventing the lunar disk from overexposing.
