Details:
A splendid landscape scene of the first full Moon of the year setting over a Wyoming geologic landmark at the first burst of the Sun. Super-Moon-1 over Red Butte ( a chugwater sandstone mesa) and Rattlesnake Mountain on a clear crisp dawn . Temperature was -3 ° F.
Not only was the Moon at is closest to Earth , the Earth was just two days away from its annual closest approach to the sun ( perihelion). So this Moon is just about as bright as it can get. If only it had been delayed about 5 minutes so I could've had full Sun on the butte and a full Moon in the sky...
Nikon D5300 DSLR with Nikkor 70-200mm lens at max telephoto ( eq. to 300mm , or 6X ). Exposure was 1/500th at f/6.3 at ISO 1250 with an EV of -0.7
The secondary image is the zoom backed off to widest setting ( eq. 105mm ) to show more of the western skyline above Cody
