Details:
At about one a.m. on 23 December a violent thunderstorm broke out over Mutare with torrential rain, blinding lightning and deafening claps of thunder. Three spectacular close strikes lasting up to one second each were captured on video in just ten minutes. The first strike was so bright that it partially burned out the first eight frames of the accompanying quarter speed time-lapse animation and mosaic. As the lightning channel decayed (second and third composite images) interesting detail including strange banding became visible which made it look like a luminous segmented worm! The frames are all in sequential order and were recorded at 25 frames per second. Although similar to bead lighting it did not break up into distinct portions as in most other published photographs. I am wondering if anyone else has seen or recorded this? Camera: Hand-held Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 in sunset scene mode and wide angle zoom setting.
