Details:
The night was crisp and clear; perfect conditions to see the Vandenberg Air Force Base launch of the Delta II rocket carrying the Joint Polar Satellite System-1. Using 10 second exposures, this is a stack of 20 images taken from the Marin Headlands, about 250 miles north of Vandenberg. I used a Canon 6D, ISO-400, with a Tamron zoom lens set to 50mm at f/4. Using image stabilized 12x36 binoculars, I was able to see the solid rocket boosters tumble away from the 1st stage after they completed their burn.
