Yesterday I observed some amazing, rare mirages of the sun the ships, the sea surface and even flying birds. A cruise ship looked as she caught a fire. Actually it was a mirage of sun glitter over a mirage of the sea surface reflecting of a mirage of the ship. The sun was caught in half by a black line. Other ships were almost unrecognizable. Pictures do not give a justice to the amazing scenery. You really have to see everything in motion. Here are the links to the videos: https://youtu.be/vsQh1DLLCDw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGgRcJ7gT28 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhBmNjUHnLc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLtW2QCxlNU It all was due to an abnormal atmospheric refraction, that created amazing mirage of the sea surface. Mirages of the sea surface are rare. Thats why it is very exiting to see one. Such mirages were known to Vikings, who called them Hafgerdingar http://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007%2F978-1-4419-1223-7_8 Vikings were scared of these False wall of water http://textlab.io/doc/5849650/false-wall-of-water As the story goes: In a few cases only have the men been known to escape who were upon the seas when such a thing occurred.
